Kenora’s 8th annual Job Fair will be held Thursday April 23th, 2009 at the Kenora Curling Club.
Job Fair is a great opportunity to showcase your organization to the community and district in a one-day event. Last year alone we had close to 1000 visitors, and this year we expect to exceed this amount.
Each year Job Fair draws and builds on the strengths of the previous year’s event, and surpasses it on all counts – the quality, quantity and diversity of displays, the enthusiasm of exhibitors, the number of visitors, the number and mix of jobs posted by employers, the advertising campaign and the community partner support.
Visitors to Job Fair come for a variety of reasons. They may be looking for a new job or career, training opportunities, information from employment service agencies or they simply come to see what businesses and organizations are out there. EVERYONE in our community has a reason to visit Job Fair 2009 – take advantage of this opportunity and be an exhibitor!
The {{post id=”visitor-profile” text=”visitor profile”}} spans a broad range of ages and educational background. In 2008 three quarters of the visitors were over 19 years old, and more than half of these were between 20 and 40 years of age. Within each age group the educational background ranged from no grade 12 to completion of post-secondary degrees. Visitor evaluations demonstrated that visitors had a variety of reasons for attending Job Fair, much more than simply ‘looking for a job’.
Job Fair 2009 is recognized as a great opportunity for face-to-face contact for both visitors and exhibitors. It provides an opportunity for community members, local and regional employers and agencies to interact. This one-day event allows visitors to meet with and ask questions of over 70 businesses and organizations that they may not otherwise have access to. A visitor last year commented, “After coming to Job Fair, I realized how long it would have taken me and how hard it would have been to talk to all of these people and apply to this many places had they not all been under one roof!”
With positive feedback from six previous Job Fairs we feel that our “formula” works, and so the format, the look, the focus and the promotion will be very similar to past years. We will however, be adding new components to the “formula”, and refining existing ones.
With changes to local employment dynamics and a critical shortage of people in the skilled trades, the job scene and opportunities are continually changing. Job Fair 2009 provides an opportunity for community members, local and regional employers and agencies to interact and to share ideas and strategies.
Planning your booth may seem like a huge task that is hard to initiate, and for Registered Exhibitors, {{post id=”tips” text=”we have included some tips”}} that may be of use to you.
