Frequently Asked Questions

1. Where is the Curling Club?

Kenora Curling Club
721 1st Street South
On the corner of 1st Street South and Eighth Avenue South

2. Why has Job Fair moved locations?

The numbers of exhibits and visitors to Job Fair have increased every year for the past 7 years, and our move in 2007 to a larger venue in the Kenora Curling Club proved to be beneficial in many aspects. The Kenora Curling Club is almost double the size of our previous locations, and accommodated more exhibitors and facilitated increased visitor traffic. The Curling Club is centrally located, allowing for easier access by exhibitors and visitors.

3. How many exhibitors are there? And who are they?

Last year there were over 70 exhibitors. These exhibitors represent all sectors, types and sizes of businesses and organizations, including private and public organizations, not-for-profit organizations, large institutions, employment support services, educational and training organizations, retail, hospitality, industry, trades, provincial and federal government agencies … and more.

This year we will be facilitating and encouraging increased participation, in numbers and breadth, by offering new booth options to small businesses, multi-facet businesses and associations.

Check out last year’s exhibitors page for a taste of what to expect for Job Fair 2009. Visit our site regularly as this list will change as new exhibitors (view exhibitors by sector) register this year.

4. I have a job, why should I come?

Even if you have a job, it never hurts to know what opportunities are out there. Aside from the employers that will be hiring, there will be exhibitors from several other categories (listed above) who will be able to give you information on training and education, which could help you prepare for and obtain your dream job. It is also a great opportunity to gather information about organizations in the community that you might not have known existed.

5. Will there be job postings/businesses hiring?

We will have a Job Board where participating exhibitors will be able to post any employment positions that they have available at the time. While not all of the exhibitors will be hiring, many of them will have information on when they will be hiring next and what they are looking for in an applicant. This is a great opportunity to meet employers that you could potentially be submitting resumes and applications to in the near future.

6. Aside from employers, what other exhibits will there be?

Employment support services, educational and training organizations, trades associations, provincial and federal government agencies and business associations will have exhibits (link to exhibitors by sector) at Job Fair 2009.

7. What time does Job Fair start and finish at?

Job Fair is on Thursday April 23th, 2009 from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Kenora Curling Club.

8. Are large groups allowed to visit?

Large groups should advise the Job Fair Coordinator of their visit prior to the event. We are requesting that large groups restrict their visit to the hours of 1:30 and 2:30 p.m.

9. Does it cost anything to enter?

Job Fair is free to the public because of major funding provided by Employment Ontario and The Academy for Technical Education and Vocational Training, as well as our local sponsors .

10. Will there be giveaways and door prizes?

There will be door prizes and giveaways at this year’s Job Fair, however at this time we do not know what they are since they are dependent on the donations of our exhibitors. Fill out an evaluation to enter to win a door prize at Job Fair on April 23th from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Kenora Curling Club.
