Tips

  1. View our website: Check out the list of exhibitors and review which you would like to talk to and may be interested in working for.
  2. Make a list of the questions you would like to ask them.
  3. Then do some research on the business. This will help prepare you for any questions they might ask you at Job Fair.
  4. Give some thought to whether or not this is the type of business your might like to work for (matching your skills, interests and career objectives).
  5. Brush up your resume: Update your resume with current information listing your most recent employment positions and accomplishments, as well as make contact with your references. Have someone look it over for mistakes and typos.

If you require help with this, there are resume support services at both the Jobs Now Employment Resource Centre and the LEAP office.  There will also be a resume booth at the Job Fair that can provide a professional assessment and constructive advice.

  6. Know your resume so that you are prepared to answer any questions about it without having the piece of paper in front of you.
  7. Bring lots of resumes: There will be over 70 exhibitors at Job Fair, and while not all will be hiring that day, some will accept resumes for positions that may be available at a later date. Bring lots of resumes to ensure that you can distribute them to all the exhibitors that interest you. (Check the Exhibitor list ahead of time.)
  8. Prepare for questions: Prepare your answers to questions that exhibitors might ask you. Do this ahead of time and practice these questions out loud, either to yourself, to a friend or family member or to a co-worker.
  9. Dress accordingly: While you might not be in an interview situation, it is important to leave a potential employer with a good impression of you, so dress accordingly.
  10. Shake hands: When meeting a potential employer it is good to shake hands when introducing yourself. It is also a good idea to shake hands at the end of a conversation/mini-interview and to thank them for their time.
  11. During an interview: When answering questions during an interview, be concise. Give them your answer and how that fits to the position, but do not give anymore details than you are asked for.
  12. Ask questions: When visiting an exhibitor ask questions! This is your opportunity to gather information about the employment possibilities as well as gather information about the exhibitor. You might find something that interests you, or something that you dislike, so ask questions.
